A great recommendation letter can seal the deal on your scholarship application. But how you ask matters just as much as who you ask.
Start early. Choose someone who knows your character and impact — not just your grades.
Example: Instead of “Can you write me a letter?” say, “I’d be honored if you’d write a letter highlighting my leadership in [specific project or role].”
Give them details: the scholarship name, your résumé, and a few bullet points about your goals.
Quick Wins:
Ask at least three weeks before the deadline.
Always say thank you — in writing.
Share your wins with them when you’re awarded the scholarship!
